The most efficient path to an ADU

A garage conversion is often the most cost-effective way to add an accessory dwelling unit, because the foundation, walls, and roof are already standing. California's ADU laws are notably friendly to conversions, and a garage that spends its life storing boxes can become a rental unit, a home for family, or a private studio.

Efficient does not mean basic. A converted garage should feel like it was always meant to be lived in, with real insulation, real light, a real kitchen and bath, and finishes chosen to last.

What a conversion involves

Every conversion begins with an honest assessment of the existing structure: the slab, the framing, the roof, and how utilities will reach the space. From there, we design the unit and its 3D renderings, prepare permit-ready documents, manage the approval process with your city, and build under our own California general contractor license, CSL 1079184. One team is accountable for the entire result.

Where a garage is not a good candidate, we say so at the consultation and walk you through the alternatives, from junior ADUs to detached units.

Common questions

How much does a garage conversion ADU cost?

Conversions often land toward the lower end of our ADU range, which runs from $300,000 to $1.5 million overall, because the structure already exists. The specifics of your garage and finishes set the real number, which we give you at the consultation.

Do I lose required parking if I convert my garage?

California's ADU laws substantially relaxed parking replacement requirements for conversions in most situations. We confirm exactly how your city applies the rules as part of our feasibility review.

Can any garage be converted?

Most can, but not all should be. Condition of the slab and framing, ceiling height, and utility access decide it, and we assess all of that honestly before you spend a dollar on design.
